We have over 20 years experience in Criminal Law, with a reputation
for good service and good results. We have conducted cases throughout
England and Wales. We have been recognised by the Law Society, the Criminal
Defence Service, and Lexcel as providing a high standard of criminal
advice and representation in the Criminal Courts, both in the Magistrates
and in the Crown Court.
We undertake to represent clients with a variety of matters ranging
from very serious offences, including offences of violence, fraud, drugs,
to offences involving public disorder, criminal damage, free speech
and public protest, and road traffic offences.
We also specialise in offences involving mentally disordered defendants.
Ms Doherty and Mr Harris have also specialised in Mental Health law.
Ms Doherty and Mr Harris are both members of the Mental Health Review
Tribunal Panel, a specialist Panel of solicitors authorised by the Law
Society to represent clients detained under the Mental Health Act. We
have conducted a number of high profile cases involving clients who
have been diagnosed with mental illness and who have been charged with
serious criminal offences. In a large number of cases we have obtained
acquittals for persons suffering from mental illness on the basis that
they were either not fit to plea or were so ill at the time of the offence
that they were not capable of committing the criminal offence. We also
advise and lecture professionals in the NHS, Probation and Social Services
in relation to the status and rights of mentally disordered defendants
detained in hospital, prison, and police stations.
Mr Harris, Ms Doherty, Mr Vickers and Ms Rolls are specialist criminal
lawyers and members of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act Criminal
Solicitor Duty Scheme, representing clients both at the Police Station
and in the Criminal Court.
Mr Harris is also a solicitor advocate (or ‘solicitor/barrister’)
authorised by the Law Society to represent clients in all of the Criminal
Courts including the Crown Court and the Criminal Court of Appeal.
In many cases, if you are charged with a criminal offence you will be
entitled to Legal Aid to be represented free of charge in the Magistrates
and the Crown Court. You are entitled to be represented free of charge
at the Police Station.
We aim to provide a more personal and consistent
service. We believe the personal touch is important. We aim to ensure
that the same solicitor or experienced clerk will deal with your case
personally. In our experience our clients feel more confident and re-assured
knowing that their case is dealt with by the same lawyer, who will be
familiar with their case.
Our out of office hours telephone number is 07974
